***Coronavirus response below from March 13, 2020***
March 13, 2020

Dear church family,

First and foremost, grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!  Secondly, I want to say that I love each and every one of you and am praying for you during this unprecedented time.  With that being said, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”  The same promises of scripture that were true yesterday, 10 years ago, at the day of our conception, and all time before are true today, tomorrow, ten years from now and they will carry us into eternity.  Be reminded: “Nothing can separate us from the love that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  “And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”  “With long life I will satisfy you and show you my salvation.”  “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”  “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”  I could go on and on with God’s promises!!  Be encouraged, strengthened and reminded of them!  They are the eternal promises of God! Receive them by faith and live confidently in Him!  We do not need to fear for “He who is in you is greater than the one that is in the world.”

With that being said, we are going to move confidently forward as a church family in the Lord and take the necessary steps to trust Him, honor the governing authorities that the Lord has placed over us and show love to our neighbor.  The church board met Monday night and we decided to not have any church activities for the next two weeks – meaning no Sunday morning activities, Sunday evening, Wednesday Night Fellowship, Bible Studies or any other church function.  After Sunday March 30th, we will reevaluate and see where things are at in our area, state and nation and monitor continuing developments of the spread of the coronavirus.  We trust fully in the Lord and His will, His healing and His protection.  We are called to honor the governing authorities as laid out in scripture as they are put in place by God for the welfare of the people under its authority (Romans 13:1-7, I Peter 3:13-17).  We want to show love to our neighbor by protecting our church family and those vulnerable age groups as well as the community around us by not gathering in a way that would exponentially increase the transmission of the virus.

In light of not having Sunday morning worship, Chuck, myself and 1 or 2 others will be putting together a video for Sunday morning worship that we will be posting a link to on our church website ( www.scalplevelcob.com ) and possibly other social media platforms.  We would encourage you to watch this video if you have the capability on Sunday morning.  If you do not have the capability, I would ask that you would spend time Sunday morning with all in your household in a time of prayer, scripture reading and even watch a biblical preacher on TV.  In addition, I have included another page with this mailing that has resources on it with ways in which you can be in the word and growing in your faith during this extended time at home.
Now, how can we show the love of Christ in such a time as this?  First, I want to ask that we as a church family would commit to praying at 7:00PM daily in your household.  Have dinner together and then pray!  Please take 10 minutes or more to pray for our church family, community, nation and world.  Pray for the healing of those infected and pray against the further spread of the virus.  Pray for hearts to turn to the Lord and receive the gospel and place their faith in Jesus, the only foundation!! Be reminded: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood…”  Hearts are ready to turn to the Lord!  Use your greatest asset: access to the Father in prayer through Jesus Christ!!

Second, call your fellow church members. Check in on one another and pray for one another.  Call your neighbors, especially the vulnerable and check in on their needs and ways you can support them Pray with and for them…this may open huge opportunities for sharing Christ’s love with them!

Third, if there are any in our church family (maybe you are reading this and this applies to you!!), or someone you know, a neighbor or a friend that would be in need of help getting groceries, meds etc. because they can’t get to the store, or shouldn’t go to the store because they are in that vulnerable category, please contact the church office.  There are several of us ready to go to the store on your behalf to meet this need.  Please don’t hesitate to call!  We will help you get what you need!  In addition, if you have a financial need or know a neighbor who has a financial need, contact the church office and we will do what we can to help with food and basic needs in this time as well as direct you to other resources to receive help.

Fourth, there are various food ministries through the school and W.A.C.K. that are taking steps to meet the needs of the youth and the vulnerable in our community.  They are in need of volunteers.  Please contact Pastor Mark at the church office and he can direct you to ways you can help.

There are, I’m sure, more ways you can think of to show the love of Christ: act as the Lord leads you! I can’t stress the following enough: 2020 has been an interesting year thus far to say the least.  Worldly foundations are cracking and being laid bare and exposed as sinking sand.  Opportunities for ministry and witnessing are there!  Be bold and show your love for Christ for He is the only firm foundation!  Speak the Truth!  Keep praying!  God is moving and working!  This is a time where the harvest is plentiful – may the workers not be few!!  The harvest may be resistant on the surface but hearts are hungry for the Lord.  There are many ways we can minister while remaining physically apart in our day and age.  None of this is outside the Lord’s sovereignty and control! Stand firm in the Lord, put on His armor, pray fervently, dig into the Word and speak the gospel of Jesus Christ to a world that is desperate for it!

In closing: be wise, be careful and considerate of others.  Take care of yourself and look to the care of others!  God is with us and this too shall pass!  May we take hold of all that He has called us to be in this time for His glory and the salvation of those around us!  This situation is about so much more than just meeting physical needs!  Let us fulfill the Great Commission!

On behalf of my family and I, we love all of you dearly and I have never been more confident in my faith in the Lord and what He is doing in our midst!  Stand firm on Christ the solid rock!

In Christ’s love,

Pastor Mark
In the New Testament, the word “brethren” describes a community of men and women who chose another way of living: the way of Jesus. The Church of the Brethren, began three centuries ago in Germany,  and still draws people who want to continue Jesus’ work of faithfulness and loving service through continuing the work of Jesus… peacefully, simply, together.
